FOOD LOVERS TAKE NOTE - the forthcoming Kingston Food Festival will take place in Kingston on April 16, 17 and 18 and it’s set to be better than ever!
Not only will you be able to enjoy foods from across the globe in the Ancient Market Place, with the International Market from Friday to Sunday and the Taste of Kingston Market on Sunday, but there will also be a Demonstration Kitchen featuring Michelin-starred chefs and plenty of special offers from all your favourite local restaurants, plus a Taste Trail around Kingston with free food samples. TASTE TRAIL (Friday 16-Sunday 18 April) -- Venues around Kingston Town Centre -- Visit some of your favourite restaurants and food retail outlets and sample food items free of charge. The most intrepid tasters will be in with a chance to win prizes.
INTERNATIONAL FOOD MARKET (Friday 16-Sunday 18 April; 10am to 5pm) -- Ancient Market Place -- Kingston’s market place will be transformed into an epicurean delight, with traders offering up tempting delicacies of the very best French cheeses, chocolate, honey, fruit wines, freshly baked bread, olives, charcuterie and patisserie. For the sweeter tooth there is a variety of indulgences including Brittany biscuits, crepes and wonderful homemade ice cream. There will be plenty of opportunity to meet the producers, sample products, and make purchases too.
TASTE OF KINGSTON MARKET (Sunday 18 April) -- Ancient Market Place -- Kingston’s leading restaurants and food outlets bring their food to you! The restaurants will venture out from their usual place of business to allow you to sample a wide range of cuisines in one location. This event is always the highlight of the Food Festival.
SPOTLIGHT ON EXOTIC TAGINE - MOROCCAN FOOD MARKET (Saturday 17 April) -- All Saints Church Lawn -- Kingston-based Moroccan caterers, Exotic Tagine, a Kingston favourite and South West London's premier Moroccan caterer will be hosting a Moroccan Food Market , and Head Chef Mohammed Tadimi will be showing off his culinary skills on Saturday and Sunday in the Demonstration Kitchen. Mohammed is one of Europe’s most revered Moroccan chefs.
DEMONSTRATION KITCHEN (Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 April) -- Ancient Market Place -- The Demonstration Kitchen will take place over Saturday and Sunday between 11am and 4.30pm, under the watchful eye of stockbroker turned TV Chef, Phillip Wells. The demonstrations will include some of the best chefs from the surrounding area, including Shay Cooper, Executive Chef at The Bingham in Richmond (Saturday 17 April), Steve Drake of Drake’s at The Clock House, Ripley (Saturday 17 April), and Trevor Ogden, Head Chef at The Dining Room, Hersham (Sunday 18 April).
On Sunday 18 April celebrity chef Richard Cawley will put 6 lucky people through their culinary paces, showing them how to make great tasting meals with ingredients from The Rotunda food outlets. The best ‘trainee chef’ will win Rotunda vouchers. Richard is well known for his outrageous dress sense, wacky humour and creative cookery demos, showcased by his colourful appearances on BBC’s ‘Ready Steady Cook’. Richard has worked in television for many years, and written countless cookery and travel articles for many magazines having travelled extensively.
