To celebrate the Olympic Games, Ilford Business Improvement District (BID) is hosting a summer of cultural, sporting and family friendly events in the town centre.
There is something for everyone so here is a flavour of what to expect.
From Saturday 28th July to Sunday 12th August visitors can watch Team GB in action and enjoy the international food festival that will run in the town centre daily. This will include stalls offering delicacies from around the world.
On Sunday 22nd July the Olympic Torch Relay finally reaches Cranbrook Road & Ilford High Road at approximately 8.30am. We recommend getting there early for this ‘once in a lifetime’ event.
On Friday 27th July, the Olympic Games Opening ceremony is being shown live on the dual-sided 20sqm TV screens that will be situated in the High Road throughout the Games. Ilford BID, together with VISION Redbridge Culture and Leisure, is hosting entertainment from 4pm – 9pm with fantastic performances from the London Outdoor Arts Festival (SHOWTIME).
During this period, entertainment will include Redbridge Music Lounge performers, street dancers, Bollywood & Bhangra dancers, street theatre walkabouts and participatory sporting activities from Redbridge Sports and Leisure. Acts will include former TV Gladiator winner Weininger Irwin with his Weininger Resistance Sliding concept, Boadicea Ladies Street Dance, who were finalists on Sky 1’s Got to Dance, and Otto and Teddy’s Fairytale Fun.
On Sunday 12th August from 4.30pm a live music event featuring 5 great acts, including local talent Ryan Green and a special performance from Britain’s Got Talent finalists, THE MEND! At 7.30pm the Closing Ceremony will be shown live on the big screens.
For the kids, Ilford’s Wacky Wednesday’s will run every Wednesday throughout the school holidays offering plenty of fun and laughter. First Wednesday is 25th July and it’s FREE!
